This sci-fi romance gives readers a heroine you’ll never find in a holy book–despite her multifarious mystical powers, the titular goddess is anything but otherworldly. With human flaws and a childish innocence, it’s no wonder she falls for a human, and no wonder I’m falling for Maria Hammarblad’s novels. Like her debut novel Kidnapped, Touch of the Goddess is breezy and quick-paced. Hammarblad’s prose in this romance, however, is cleaner and cleverer than her previous books (making light-hearted banter look effortless). The jury, once again, approves.
Reading time: 2 weeks (maybe less if you’re on vacation this month)
Recommendation: As far as the stereotypical romance goes, Hammarblad’s writing is almost chaste. Touch of the Goddess is neither hard SF nor hard-core Harlequin: it’s a cute, sweet story appropriate for any casual reader who needs a couple hundred-page-long break.
Touch of the Goddess is available as an ebook from Amazon for $2.99
